Presenter
John Morrissey is a Research Fellow based in the RMIT Centre for Design since February 2008. John is currently involved in the area of built environment, with a focus on analysis to inform policy on housing. His main role at the Centre for Design is as Co-ordinator of the Lifetime Affordable Housing in Australia (LAH) project. This 3 year ARC Linkage Project aims to provide evidence to underpin policies for high performance urban housing in Australia. The co-ordinator role chiefly involves liaising with partner organisations and University partners and providing supervision and support to PhD scholars on the project. As part of this project, John is currently conducting research into the lifecycle costs of housing and the implications of these in terms of both sustainability and affordability in the Australian context. Lifecycle costing analysis from this project will provide a casebook of findings to enable fully informed, evidence based and integrated policy responses to sustainability and affordability issues. Other work includes Ecological Footprint analysis, indicators for sustainability assessment, and the integration of sustainability considerations into management practice and decision making. John’s long term career objectives are the application of expertise to instigate real change in the management of our environment, through furthering knowledge and understanding of key aspects of urban sustainability.
