CycleWise - Tips for Surviving and Thriving on the Roads
Designed for novice riders who'd like to ride more, ride to work, ride for transport but don't feel confident on the roads. The talk covers: choosing the right bike and accessories, bike set-up and safety checks, cyclist rights and responsibilities, route planning, tips for avoiding car doors, being seen and safe at intersections, what to do if you have a crash and more. Also includes info about courses available, if people want to brush up their skills. There will be an opportunity for people to ask questions.
Presenter
Rosy Strong founded Bikes@Work in 2007. She has worked in Australia and overseas as a physiotherapist for almost a decade. Drawn by a passionate interest in the environment and the interconnection between the environment and human health, Rosy decided to undertake postgraduate studies in Health Promotion in 2006.
Rosy has been involved in the community health sector for more than five years and has developed and implemented a variety of community health promotion programs. She has also worked as a student intern and project officer with the Walking and Cycling Branch of Victorian Department of Transport (formally Department of Infrastructure).
Bikes@Work was nominated for the Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards in 2008 in the Bicycle Friendly Business category.
Rosy is an accredited Bike Ed Instructor who had run her "CycleWise" bicycle training programs in the community and for workplaces including Sustainability Victoria, Lend Lease and PriceWaterhouse Coopers. She's tired of hearing people say "I'm just too scared to ride on the roads" - So, whilst lobbying for improved cycling infrastructure, she commits herself to empowering others with the skills, knowledge and confidence to take to the streets on two wheels and discover the economic, enviromental and health benefits of getting around by bike..
