All Bells that Ends Well - Launch event

The Federation Bells are thirty-nine computer controlled bells located in Birrarung Marr. The City of Melbourne commissioned multi-talented young Yorta Yorta/Kamilaroi musician James Henry to create a piece of music that reflects his Indigenous heritage. All Bells that Ends Well ranges from contemplative to the cacophonous and treats the layout of the bells as a map of Australia. The Federation Bells installation allows for the audience to be surrounded by the musical instrument, and listeners may get a sense of the arrhythmic dissonance of colonisation. Ultimately it is a hopeful work, which erupts in a positive harmony, including Asian scales. Anyone can write a work for the Federation Bells by visiting www.federationbells.com.au.
